Grocery list template: the complete, printable list

Updated

Here’s a complete grocery list template: 108 everyday items, organized by aisle, with checkboxes. Print it, stick it on the fridge, check off what you’re out of, and head to the store without forgetting anything. Further down: a weekly grocery list and a grocery list for college students.

How to use this list

It covers what most people buy at a typical American supermarket, in aisle order. Cross off what you never buy, add your own staples (your favorite hot sauce, the dog’s food), and use it as your base every week: before you go, check off what you’re out of, then add the ingredients for the meals you’ve planned. The full method is in our guide on how to make a grocery list.

A list that stays up to date for everyone

A printed list can’t update itself: if someone finishes the milk after you leave, you won’t know. With kaidashi, your whole household shares one grocery list, updated live on everyone’s phone, iPhone or Android (on Android, through the test for now). Everyone adds what’s missing; at the store, you drag the item into the cart, and everyone else sees it’s been picked up, and by whom. In the back of the store, where there’s no signal, the list keeps working.

kaidashi doesn’t import this list: you add your items as the week goes on, and the app then suggests what your household usually buys, with the unit. Free, no ads.

Weekly grocery list

A seven-day starting point for two people: a simple menu of seven dinners and the list that goes with it, aisle by aisle. Breakfast basics are included; add lunches you eat at home and adjust the amounts for your household. Before you go, check what’s already in your pantry.

Tight budget, mini fridge, maybe a microwave and one burner: this list sticks to food that keeps, cooks fast, and works in more than one meal. Go for store brands, buy rice and pasta in bigger bags, and keep frozen vegetables on hand, since they don’t go bad. Cook a double batch: the second half is tomorrow’s lunch.

Frequently asked questions

How do I print this grocery list?

Tap “Print the list” at the top of the page, or press Ctrl+P (⌘+P on a Mac). The printed version keeps only the lists and their checkboxes: the full list on one letter or A4 page, the weekly list and the college student list on a second one.

Can I import this list into kaidashi?

No, kaidashi doesn’t import lists. You add items in the app as the week goes on: type the first few letters, and kaidashi then suggests what your household usually buys, with the unit.

What should be on a basic grocery list?

The things you buy every week: milk, eggs, butter, bread, fruit and vegetables, pasta or rice, coffee, toilet paper, dish soap. Start from the full list on this page, cross off what you never buy, and keep the rest as your base list.
